Williamsburg, KY – Coming off of a strong week in Patriot athletics that saw numerous milestones and records, wrestler Dymond Guilford and swimmer Jokubas Jankauskas were selected as the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, announced by the athletic department Monday.
Dymond Guilford earned athlete of the week honors after going undefeated with a 9-0 record at the Patriot Duals. The graduate student outscored her opponents 47-2 with four tech falls, two falls, and a pair of forfeits. The Lancaster, CA native had an impressive opening day at the Patriot Duals compiling a 4-0 record, including three tech falls and a forfeit win. Guilford tallied a 7-2 decision over Liliana Vergara (Campbellsville), who is ranked sixth in the 191 lbs. weight class, and needed just 1:19 to earn a fall of #18 Catherine McNulty (Indiana Tech). The Lancaster, CA native averaged 1:30 of mat time per match with eight of them ending during the first period. Guilford won each of her four tech falls by a 10-0 score, limiting the opposition to just one team point against her over the two-day tournament.
Jokubas Jankauskas earned athlete of the week honors after a record breaking performance at the Wooster College Invite. The freshman was part of five school records, achieved two NAIA "A" standards and closed out the week with five wins. The Siauliai, Lithuania native opened the meet winning the 200 IM clocking a time of 1:50.60. That time broke Libor Janek's school record of 1:50.79 set back in 2000 and is the third fastest time in the NAIA this season. Jankauskas capped off the first day of competition splitting a 49.24 to lead off the 400 medley relay breaking the 100 back school record by almost a half second. His fast start also aided the Patriots to not only win the relay but set their third school record of the day with a time of 3:20.07. The freshman followed that up by winning both the 100 back and 200 back, achieving the "A" standard in both. His 200 back time of 1:48.47 is the fastest in the NAIA so far this season. Jankauskas capped off his meet by being part of UC's 200 medley relay that went 1:31.24, setting a new school record and holding the second fastest time in the NAIA.
