Williamsburg, KY – After playing pivotal roles in their team's success throughout the month, Patriots guard Kassie Monday and catcher Carlos Muniz have been selected as the February Athletes of the Month presented by Appalachian Wireless, the athletic department announced Wednesday. The University of the Cumberlands Athletic Department in conjunction with their corporate partner Appalachian Wireless are presenting the "Appalachian Wireless Athletes of the Month", which will be award to one male and one female student-athlete each month.

Monday was named the female athlete of the month honors after averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game on the month.  Kassie was pivotal in UC's 7-3 record, that included a win over then top-ranked Thomas More, Cumberlands first win over a #1 ranked opponent in program history.  The freshman led the Patriots netting at least 20 points in five games, including a career-high 29 points in the MSC semifinals against Campbellsville.  Monday also grabbed a career-high eight assists to go along with 23 points and three rebounds in the win over Freed-Hardeman helping UC clinch the third-seed in the MSC and finish their home slate with a 15-2 record.  In addition to her scoring, the Clarkrange, TN native dished out at least five assists in six games on the month and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds twice.  In the MSC tournament, Monday 24 points, five assists, and four rebounds in UC's quarterfinal win over Pikeville as she was named the Player of the Game.  Monday garnered MSC Freshman of the Year honors and was a MSC First Team All-Conference selection.

Muniz earned the male athlete of the month honors after a stellar month that included hitting .674 with 13 extra base hits, and 21 RBI's.  Muniz opened the baseball season red hot, recording 11 multi-hit games, including ten straight to open the season, while having an RBI in each of the first give games.  After a strong opening weekend, the catch went 16-19 during the second week on February with 13 RBI's, five homers, and four doubles against Cincinnati-Clermont and Saint Francis.  The Naranjito, Puerto Rico native followed that up going 7-11 in the sweep over Point.  Muniz capped off his month in dramatic fashion as he belted to homers, including a walkoff solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Cumberlands the series win over UT Southern to open conference play.  Muniz is second in the NAIA in average, eighth in homeruns, and 12^th in hits as he aided UC to their 12-4 start.
