Patriots Find Themselves Sitting At 25th in the NAIA

NAIA Poll – No. 2

Kansas City, MO- Cumberlands drops from 17th to 25th in this week's NAIA Coaches Poll announced Thursday Morning by the national office. UC is 19-10 on the season and will host Point Park and Georgia Gwinnett this weekend.

Since the pervious poll the Pats have went 6-3 and won and lost one Mid-South Conference series. They beat Bethel 2-1 in that series but fell in the series against Cumberland 2-1. The Pats got a win over Lindsey Wilson in a mid-week non-conference matchup. They also have a win over Milligan and Midway.

The pitching staff is led by senior Thomas Gutierrez, who is 4-0 so far this season with two complete games and a shutout. He has pitched 41.2 innings allowing 38 hits and 37 strikeouts for an ERA of 3.89. Braxton Cotton game is also a regular starter as he pitched 40.1 innings giving up 44 hits while notching 23 strikeouts for an ERA of 4.24. Then there is Hunter Rigsby who leads the team is strikeouts with 46 in 33.0 innings. Rigsby has only allowed 23 hits this season and has an ERA of 1.64.

Offensively, Charlie Muniz leads the team and the NAIA with a .568 batting average. Of his 54 hits, 14 has been doubles and 10 has been homeruns. Along with leading the team in hits, doubles, and homerun, he also leads in RBIs with 31 and total bases with 98. The true freshman Seth Benner is hitting .446 with eight doubles, one triple, and two homeruns. Benner also has 29 RBIs on the season. Next is Raphy Almanzar from Bonao, DR. Almanzar has a .419 batting average with seven doubles, a homer, and 21 RBIs. Sean Cheely leads the Patriots in stolen bases with 18, while hitting .318, for nine doubles, two triples and three homers.

Looking at the Mid-South Conference, Freed-Hardeman leads the way as they pulled a ranking of 20th, with 20-8 record. Cumberlands follows with a 19-10 record. Cumberland slid into the receiving votes category with a record of 19-15.

The Pats will be in action this weekend as they take on Point Park on Friday March 25 at 7 pm.
