Kansas City, MO – Coming off capturing their first Mid-South Conference President's Cup in over a decade the University of the Cumberlands athletic teams not only excelled on the field but in the classroom as well with 19 athletic teams earning the NAIA Scholar-Team distinction for the 2021-2022 school year, announced by the NAIA National office Thursday.

The Patriots continue to showcase student-athletes as not only were there 19 scholar-teams, but UC also had a school record 184 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes this season. This is the third time in the last four years that UC had at least 19 teams earn this distinction. 
 
Women's basketball, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, women's indoor track & field, women's lacrosse, women's outdoor track & field, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, and volleyball are all repeat winners of this distinction. Baseball, women's bowling, dance, and men's wrestling round out the Patriots 19 NAIA Scholar-Teams.

The athletic department varsity sports finished with an overall GPA of 3.09 for the year after earning a 3.10 during the fall semester and a 3.09 in the spring semester.
 
Women's basketball led the way for the Patriots with a 3.68 GPA, while they were one of five teams that posted a team GPA of 3.50 or higher. During the spring semester, Cumberlands had five teams achieve a team GPA of 3.50 or higher.  Over the course of the season, UC had a program record 299 student-athletes earned MSC Academic All-Conference accolades.
 
In total over 2,000 teams from across the NAIA, including 93 from the Mid-South Conference, earned this distinction. To be eligible each team would have to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2021-2022 school year.
