Women Start Season with Strong Performance in Louisville

Louisville, KY – The Patriots started their indoor season on a high note on Saturday with a first-place individual finish, eight top-10 placements, and set a new program record in the 300m dash.
 
A pair of Pats finished first and second in the 800m run Saturday afternoon. Elisa Helferich clocked a 2:29.51 for first while Olivia Griese finished just behind her in 2:30.99. Ashlyn Liddle continued UC's day with a podium finish in the mile. She crossed the finish in 5:30.53 for third place.
 
Cumberlands newcomer Abia Kante came away with a new program record in her collegiate debut. Kante ran a 41.51 in the 300m dash to etch her name in the record books.
 
UC finished in the top-10 in multiple other events in Louisville. The weight throw saw Emma Hall and Pia Stern finish ninth and tenth with marks of 12.06m and 11.62m. Anna Rusing came away with a seventh-place finish in the 3K with a 10:57.76 while Chloe West ran her 3K in 11:25.82 for 11th. Makayla Clark entered the unseeded high jump and came away with a 1.50m clearance for sixth.  
 
The 4x400 relay squad combined for eighth after finishing in 4:13.38. Beatriz De Souza and Kathryn Couch handled the first two legs before Kante and Griese finished the race for the Pats.
 
UC will be back in action next weekend across multiple meets. The racewalk squad will head north to Indiana tech for the Warrior Open while the others will head to Grand Rapids, MI to compete in the GVSU Holliday Open.
