Brookings, SD – The Cumberlands women's track and field team made history on Saturday with a ninth-place finish at the NAIA Indoor National Championships. This is the best finish in program history for the women at indoor nationals. UC scored 30 points overall, adding eight more points today from the 5K race, just three points away from making the top-five.
The lone event that featured the Pats today was the 5000m run.
Alina Boshchuk led the way with a second-place overall finish. She clocked a 17:26.42 finish for All-American honors, scoring eight points for the team.
Lismar Betancourt finished ninth, just one spot away from All-American, while
Elke Wijkmans crossed the finish in 12
th.
The Patriots finished the meet with an individual national champion, 5 All-Americans, and a pair of school records to go along with their highest finish in program history. They look to ride this momentum into their outdoor season which is scheduled to begin on their home track on March 15
th.
