Results
Richmond, KY – The Patriots has a fantastic day at Eastern Kentucky University's Rick Erdmann Twilight, coming away with five first place finishes, two school records, and numerous national qualifying standards.
Abia Kante had a meet to remember, breaking a pair of school records and hitting three NAIA National Standards. She dominated the 200m dash, clocking a 24.57 for first place, a school record, and an "A" standard. She also won the long jump with an "A" standard mark of 5.82m, breaking her own program record. Finally, she fired out of the blocks in the 100m dash for a first-place finish "B" standard time of 11.93.
The 100m also saw a trio of Pats finish together led by
Greta Sutton who clocked a 13.22 for eighth.
Hannah Baker followed close behind with a 13.28 finish while
Shamaya Jones crossed the finish line in 13.32.
The Patriots final national standard came from
Alina Boshchuk who ran the 1500m. The freshman finished her race in 4:38.06 as the fastest NAIA competitor, and for 12
th overall.
Ashlyn Liddle finished two places behind her teammate in 4:48.24 while
Hannah Henage rounded out UC's runners in this event with a 5:11.70 time for 18
th.
Back in the field events
Maggie Buerger had an impressive showing, winning the discus and placing second in the shot put. Buerger threw her disc 35.84m on her final attempt to jump up the standings.
Pia Stern followed close behind with a 32.56m throw for third while
Emma Hall rounded out the top-five with a 27.52m toss.
Taylor Lunsford was the final UC thrower in the discus, finishing eighth behind a 25.76m throw.
In the shot put, Buerger's throw of 10.84m earned second-place. Hall used a 9.97m final attempt to place third while Lunsford's 9.63m mark finished sixth.
Pia Stern led all Patriot throwers in the hammer throw with a second-place finish as well. She earned the silver medal finish on her final attempt behind a 44.27m throw. Buerger finished sixth with a 38.79m mark while Lunsford and Hall placed 12
th and 14
th with 29.62m and 28.44m bests.
Jaci Woods and
Mya Hines each earned victories in their respective jumping events on Friday. Woodls used her final attempt to leap 11.14m in the triple jump for first place. In the high jump, Hines cleared the bar at 1.55m on her final attempt for the win. Hines was the top Cumberlands finisher in the javelin with a 24.08m heave for seventh. Stern finished just behind her teammate with a 23.72m throw while Woods placed 10
th overall with an 18.34m best on her final attempt.
Beatriz De Souza was the final Patriot track runner in action in Richmond, finishing fourth overall in the 400m dash. The senior ran her lap in 1:03.28 for her top-four finish.
UC will now look forward to the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championships hosted on their home track in Williamsburg, KY. The meet will begin on Sunday, May 5
th.
