Winston-Salem, NC – The Patriots racewalkers made the trip to North Carolina to compete at the JDL Flat is Fast Invite on Sunday afternoon. UC swept the racewalk events, winning both the men's race and the women's race. Four Patriots hit national standards in the 3K RW as well.
Alexa Governor, who already held the top time in the NAIA, clocked a 14:23.66 to set a new number one finish in the nation this season. She was followed by Ava Newkirk who crossed the finish line in 15:18.18 for an A standard and second place overall. Newkirk's finish marked the fourth fastest in the country this year. Isabell Blatz was the third Patriot finisher, placing sixth with a 22:17.32.
On the men's side, defending 3K RW national champion Dillan Melchiore led the charge for the Patriots with a 13:01.47 first-place showing. This time is the fourth-fastest in the NAIA so far this season and a national A standard. Lucien Beardsley also crossed the finish line on Saturday, doing so in 15:04.55 for fourth place overall, and a B standard.
Cumberlands are set to compete next weekend at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville. Events begin on Friday, January 31st.
