WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Cumberlands Esports team began their season across multiple titles in NACE and NECC competition this past week, recording several strong individual performances and key wins.
 
Rocket League
UC's NACE Rocket League squad battled hard in two close matches. They dropped a 1-3 decision to Texas at Arlington with game scores of 1-3, 3-2, 2-3, and 2-5. Aedan "Mury" Poore paced the Patriots with a team-high five goals in the series. Later in the week, Cumberlands fell 2-3 against Siena Heights in another tightly contested matchup, with the Saints pulling away in the decisive game five by a 5-0 margin. With those results, the Patriots sit at 0-2 in NACE play.
 
On the NECC side, the Patriots picked up two wins. They advanced past Cleveland State by forfeit before taking down Tiffin University 4-2. Wyatt Johnson delivered a standout performance in the victory, netting a career-high four goals in game three and finishing the series with seven goals total, another personal best. The victories move UC's NECC record to 2-0 on the season.
 
League of Legends
The Patriots split their recent NACE matches, dropping a 1-2 battle to Lesley University on September 16 before earning a win over SAIT Varsity on the 23rd by forfeit. They bounced back in their most recent contest, sweeping their opponent 2-0. Devon Ridner led the charge in game one with a season-high 12 kills, adding four deaths and three assists to finish with a 12/4/3 KDA. Lucas Kim followed with a dominant game two performance, tallying a 2/2/23 scoreline to set a new career high with 23 assists. With those results, UC now sits at 2-1 in NACE play.
 
Super Smash Bros.
UC's Smash Bros. squad earned a 2-0 sweep over Saginaw Valley State in NECC play. Ben Skatzes set the tone in game one by taking six stocks, while Seth Steely came up clutch in game two, rallying the Patriots from a four-stock deficit to secure the win. The result improves UC's record to 1-0 in the NECC this season.
