Williamsburg, KY – After a strong week in Patriots Athletics, libero Davey Slaughter and swimmer Alexander Poulsen have been named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
Davey Slaughter earned athlete of the week honors after tallying 70 digs, 14 aces, and 15 assists as the Patriots posted a 4-0 record on the week. The senior opened the week with 17 digs, three aces, and four assists as the Patriots defeater #25 Lindsey Wilson. She followed that up with 11 digs and a pair of aces against Campbellsville to help UC remain unbeaten in conference matches. Slaughter followed that up with 23 digs and six assists against (RV) Aquinas, before closing out the week notching 19 digs and five aces to keep Patriots undefeated with a 3-0 win over Northwestern Ohio.
Alexander Poulsen earned athlete of the week honors after an incredible performance in UC's first two dual matches, in which he posted six wins with 5 national cuts. Poulsen began his Patriot career clocking a 44.29 for the 100 yard free, which broke Cumberlands school record by 0.08 seconds. He was also on a pair of UC's winning relays in UC's win over Shawnee State. Poulsen followed that up by touching the wall in 20.50 to win the 50-free with the third fastest time in program history. The Birkerød, Denmark native also won the 100 fly finishing in 50.16 as well as the 200-free relay. He is currently ranked top-four in the NAIA in the three individual events.
