UC Women's Wrestling Marks Eight Podium Finishers at Wasp Open

Emory, VA – The eighth-ranked Women's Wrestling team traveled to Emory, VA to compete in the Wasp Open where they saw eight individual wrestlers mark podium finishes. 

Among those claiming podium finishes for their respective weight classes for UC was: Micah Miller (1st), Amaria Ridgner (2nd), Kaitlin Castro (2nd), Kaylin Taylor (3rd), Sarina Gunn (3rd), Oriyana Castex and Ariyanah Parson (co-3rd), and Sierra Mefford (4th).  

In the 160-weight class, Miller collected a first-place finish after posting a 4-0 record on the day. In her first bout of the day, Miller notched the fall in 1:46 over Kelynn Dunn (Unattached). In her second match, Miller notched her second fall of the day in just 0:53 over Margaret Page (Emory & Henry). In her semi-final match, Miller completed her third fall of the day over Reise Roach (Frostburg State) in 1:21. In the championship match, Miller faced Taylor Williams (Pemproke RTC), taking the victory in an 11-1 tech fall after marking three two-point takedowns and a four-point takedown to claim first place in the 160 bout.  

In the 131-weight class, Amaria Ridger collected a second-place finish after going 3-1 on the day. She opened her campaign with a 10-0 tech fall win over Danayah Savoy (FSU) with one four-point takedown and three two-point takedowns. In her second match, Ridgner marked another 10-0 tech fall against Makenzie Robinson (UOTC) with a four-point takedown and three two-point takedowns to advance to the semifinal. In her semifinal match, Ridgner claimed her third tech fall win over Adrianna Lloyd (UMO) with four two-point takedowns and a four-point takedown to advance to the championship. In the championship match, Ridger fell short in a 5-1 decision to claim second place in the 131 bout.  

In the 124-weight class, Kaitlin Castro collected a second-place finish after going 3-1 on the day. In her first bout of the day, Castro notched the fall in 2:20 over Sophia Satterfield (Unattached). In her second bout, Castro notched her second fall of the day in 1:13 over Dayanah Savoy (FSU) to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinal match, Castro faced Asia Fowler (Unattached), notching her third fall in 1:18 to advance to the championship. In the championship match, Castro fell short of the mark to claim second place in the 124 bout.  

Cumberlands will be back in action after the New Year begins on Friday, January 9 to Saturday, January 10. The Patriots will travel to Cedar Falls, IA to compete in the NWCA National Duals.
