Boshchuk Breaks 10K Record at Raleigh to Begin Weekend

Raleigh, NC – The Patriots competed at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina and the Raider Rumble at Lindsey Wilson College on Friday to begin their busy weekend. UC posted multiple strong performances including a pair of wins, two national standards, and a school record as well.
 
Alina Boshchuk ran the fastest 10K time in school history and in the NAIA this season, crossing the finish line at 35:28.19. This earned 13th in her heat at the Raleigh Relay against high-level competition. Sharon Jemeli followed just behind her teammate with a 35:29.89 for 15th in the heat, breaking the previous school record as well, and clocking in at number two in the NAIA. Both times hit national A standards.
 
Viola Jepleting also ran at Raleigh, racing in the 1500m. She ran a 4:39.22, missing the B standard by just three seconds.
 
Maggie Buerger finished atop the leader board in the discus with a 37.76m throw while Delaney Deaton finished third overall with a 33.48m best. The duo also placed in the top-five in the shot put along with Taylor Lunsford who finished sixth. Buerger finished with a 10.86m mark for third while Deaton and Lunsford posted marks of 9.21m and 9.14m.
 
Buerger finished her day with a second-place hammer throw performance. She threw her hammer 41.17m while Deaton's 36.21m earned fourth. Lunsford placed fifth with a 34.17m as well.
 
The second win of the day came from Jaci Woods in the javelin throw. She finished with a 24.37m best while Mya Hines followed with a 19.10m throw for third. Hannah Baker rounded out the Pats in the event with an 18.67m mark for fourth.
 
Hines also competed in the long jump and the 100m hurdles, where she finished third with a 5.09m leap in the LJ and second with a 21.94 hurdle time. Woods followed with a third-place finish of her own in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.40m.
 
UC will be back tomorrow for the final day of the Raleigh Relays and will also compete at Central Methodist University.
