Madisonville, KY – The Patriots archery team recorded 21 podium finishes, including 11 conference titles to capture the 2026 MSC Indoor Archery Championships Sunday afternoon at the West Kentucky Archery Complex. UC was represented in seven of the eight gold medal matches during head-to-head eliminations and have now won this tournament for six straight years.
"I'm proud of how our team competed this weekend," said Head Coach
Kris Strebeck. "They have been practicing hard and brought that effort into this tournament. We can now have two weeks to focus before Indoor Nationals."
Chase White, who entered as the second-seed, went 4-0 en route to capturing gold. The freshman opened with consecutive 6-0 victories to reach the semifinals. There he faced off with teammate
Zach Matthews and two tied the first end before Matthews took a 5-3 led. White rallied in the final end 27-22 to win the match 6-5. In the finals White knocked off top-seed Kyle Coffey (Union) 6-0 to finish atop the podium.
Matthews tallied a 2-2 record on the day. He opened with a 6-4 win over Hunter Berry, before knocking off third-seed Braylon Greene 7-3. Matthews finished fourth overall to score six points for the Patriots.
UC had a pair of podium finishers in the women's barebow division.
Isabell Lehsten capture her third podium finish of the weekend after recording a runner-up finish. She opened with a 6-0 win, before rallying in the quarterfinals to defeat Maria Sampson (LWU) 6-4. The freshman won the second and third end before clinching her semifinal match 6-4 over Zoey Hudson (Camp.) before closing out with a runner-up finish.
Kennedy Sumpter notched a bronze medal in the women's barebow division after posting a 3-1 record. Sumpter tallied back-to-back decisive 6-0 wins to reach in the semifinals. After making the bronze medal match, Sumpter recorded a 6-4 win over Hudson to clinch a spot on the podium.
Ceridwyn Salyers made a strong run in the women's recurve division with a 3-1 record. Salyers begin with 6-0 wins over Ashley Thomas and
Alexis McGraw. In the semifinals Salyers tallied a 6-0 win over
Lidia Quezada before closing out as with second place. Quezada notched a 2-2 record to place fourth and earn five points.
The Patriots notched three of the top four finishers in the women's fixed pins division.
Ayla Mills, who entered as the top seed, posted a 4-0 record en route to the conference title. Mills carded a 148 in each of her first two matches before tallying a 149-143 win over
Hannah Summers to reach the finals. In the gold medal match, Mills went clean over the final four ends to earn the 149-145 win.
Summers notched a 3-1 record and captured bronze. The sophomore won her first two matches and after falling to the bronze medal match rallied to defeat
Anna Jo Rush in a one-arrow shoot-off. Rush earned five points after going 2-2 and placing fourth.
Landon Standish posted a 4-0 record to garner gold in the men's compound division. The grad student was nearly flawless in his first two matches to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, Standish tallied a perfect score of 30 in four ends as he defeated Bo Pipes (LWU) 149-148. Standish than faced top-seed Kapt Brandt, where he garnered a one-point win 1417-146 to finish atop the podium.
UC notched a pair of podium finishers in the women's compound division. Top-seed
Lanie Nish held strong, going 3-0 to place first. Nish won her first two matches by four-points to reach the finals. In the gold medal, Nish faced Anna Shearier and the two archers went back-and-forth as the match was tied 141-141 after the fifth end. Nish won the one-arrow shoot-off to capture gold.
Veteran
Marissa Harding went 3-1, including a 144-139 win over Zoie Thompson in the bronze medal match.
In the men's fixed pins division,
Joseph West won has first three matches to reach the finals. In the quarterfinals West edged out Will Timmerman 147-146, while he took down sixth-seed Gus Burtts 147-146 in the semifinals. West closed out runner-up after falling 150-147 in the finals.
Cumberlands returns to the range Saturday, January 31
st, when they travel to Owensboro, KY to compete in USA Indoor Nationals. The Patriots will begin qualification at 2 p.m.
