BOWLING GREEN, KY – The University of the Cumberlands swept this week's Mid-South Conference Men's Track & Field honors as
Luca Madeo was named MSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week and
Mark Lawin earned MSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
Madeo opened his season in impressive fashion at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, clocking an NAIA A standard time of 14:14.38 in the 5000 meters. His performance currently ranks fourth in the NAIA this season and positioned him among the top distance runners in the country this indoor season.
Lawin captured the heptathlon title at the Centre Indoor Invitational and Multis, totaling 5,061 points to rank seventh in the NAIA this season. The freshman claimed event victories in the shot put (13.78m), 60-meter hurdles (8.69), and pole vault (4.45m), while adding a runner-up finish in the long jump (6.74m). He also scored consistently across all seven events to secure the overall crown and deliver one of the top multi-event marks in the nation this year.
This marks the first MSC weekly honors for both Madeo and Lawin so far this season. It is the Patriots' eighth total weekly award this year.
Madeo, Lawin, and the rest of UC's track & field squad will look to win their third consecutive MSC Indoor Title tomorrow in Louisville, KY. The MSC Championships will begin at 10 AM ET with live results available
