Kingsport, TN – After a dominating opening weekend, the #3 Cumberlands women's lacrosse team swept the AAC Player of the Week honors, conference official announce Monday. A career-performance leads to
Ashlee Baker being named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week, while an impressive debut from
Lenora DeVries garners her AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Baker notched her second AAC weekly honor after netting a career-high six goals, an assist, and two caused turnovers in the win over #8 Lawrence Tech. The Las Vegas, NV native set the tone for UC scoring the first goal of the season before netting the game-winning goal with 6:55 remaining in the first quarter. Baker added three goals and an assist in the second half as the Patriots pulled away from the Blue Devils to remain unbeaten in season-openers.
DeVries notched Defensive Player of the Week honors after tallying seven caused turnovers, eight ground balls, and two points in UC's win. The Roseville, MN native recorded two caused turnover, a ground ball, and two points in the first quarter as Cumberlands jumped out to the 5-0 lead. In the second half DeVries scooped six ground balls and notched four caused turnovers to limit Lawrence Tech to just one goal over the last 30 minutes of play. DeVries was a pivotal part of the Patriots defense that held the Blue Devils to their fewest goals in program history.
