Seniors Shined as Patriots Defeat (RV) Bulldogs

Williamsburg, KY – The sixth-ranked Patriots men's lacrosse team seniors combined for nine points, 15 ground balls, and 12 saves to earn the 21-12 win over (RV) Tennessee Wesleyan Saturday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  In addition, Cumberlands set the new program record with 27 faceoff wins in the game.

Prior to the game, UC honored its 2026 senior class.  Will Rogers and Dennis Smith combined for seven points, while Michael Adams and Ty Grooms went 7-9 on faceoffs.  Nathan Foskey added 12 saves. 

Dom Lulow paced the way for the Patriots with eight points, while Caden Abbott tallied six points, including four assists. Dakota White tied his career-high with 20 face off wins while scooping ten ground balls.  Cole Bastian notched five ground balls as well.

Tennessee Wesleyan (5-3, 1-1) jumped out a 2-0 lead before Cumberlands responded with Alex Heck finding Caden Abbott for a goal.  Both defenses applied strong pressure over the next few minutes, however, Lulow notched two goals an assist to make it 4-2 with 4:15 remaining.  UC tacked on three more goals, including one from Smith making it 7-2 after the first quarter.

The Patriots (3-3; 1-1) added three goals, in a one-minute span, to extend their lead to 10-2 with 9:33 remaining.  Abbott and Rogers tallied a goal and an assist each as part of that run.  Tennessee Wesleyan scored three of the next four goals, however, the Pats goal came from Jacob Ingle who raced up field and netted his first goal of the season as Cumberlands took an 11-5 lead into the break.

Dakota White netted just seven seconds into the third quarter to net a goal making it 12-5.  After the Bulldogs scored two of the next three goals, Cook and Lulow responded with back-to-back goals make it 15-7 with 6:38 left.  Two minutes later, Caleb Mason made a diving shot into the corner of the cage giving UC a 16-7 advantage.  In the closing minutes of the period Jack Bichsel scooped a ground ball and on the transition Ty Grooms ripped a goal as Cumberlands took an 18-8 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Kuwese Walker netted an unassisted goal, while Foskey made four of his 12 saves in the period.  UC tallied late goals from Smith and Cook for the 21-10 final.
 
Cumberlands returns to the field Thursday, March 19th, when they travel to West Point, GA to face the Skyhawks. That game is set for 1 p.m.
