Kingsport, TN – For the fourth time this season, the Patriots women's lacrosse team has swept the AAC Player of the Week honors, conference officials announced Monday. On the heels of a 16-8 win over #4 Reinhardt,
Ashlee Baker was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week, while
Mikayla Kimsey garnered AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Baker notched her third AAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after tallying a team-best nine points in the top-five win. The junior netted a hattrick, while dishing out six assists in the game to pace Cumberlands. Baker connected with
Kaitlyn Friel for UC's first goal of the game, which was also her 100
th point of the season. The Las Vegas, NV native either scored or assisted on seven of the Patriots first eight goals to tie the game midway through the third quarter. She added a goal and an assist in the fourth quarter as the Patriots earned the 16-8 win. Baker leads the NAIA with 108 points and 56 assists, while her 56 assists rank third in program history.
A strong performance, highlighted by an incredible second half, leads to Kimsey earning AAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Kimsey tied her season-high with 13 saves in the win over the Eagles. The sophomore made seven saves in the second half, while holding Reinhardt scoreless over the final 26 minutes of the game. Kimsey closed out the contest with a 61.9% save percentage in the game to go along with a caused turnover and two ground balls. The Jacksonville, FL native has posted a NAIA-best 57.1% save percentage on the season.
The Patriots will return to the field on Wednesday, April 15th, when they travel to Georgetown, KY to face the (RV) Tigers. Gametime is set for 6 p.m.
