Kansas City, MO – As the Cumberlands women's lacrosse team is gearing up for a stretch run, the Patriots earned 84 points to remain ranked second in NAIA Coaches' Poll, released by the national office Wednesday. Cumberlands has compiled a 15-1 record on the season with ten wins against teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the poll.
On the year, UC has outscored their opponents 315-72 on the season and leads the NAIA in goals (315), assists (194), ground balls (382), draw controls (266), and caused turnovers (210). Cumberlands is riding a seven game win streak, including a 4-0 mark in AAC play, while outscoring their opponents 104-7 in conference play.
The Patriots success has come a balanced attack along with strong defense. The Patriots have seven players that have tallied at least 20 goals so far this season, led by
Ashlee Baker, who has a NAIA-best 50 assists and 99 points.
Anna Lobbezoo is third in the NAIA with 73 points, while
Emma Rittman has notched 48 goals, 69 points, 81 draw controls, and 50 ground balls. The Patriots have also had a quartet of freshman,
Allison Joines, Kaityln Friel,
Lenora DeVries and
Christina Carter that have combined for 122 goals and 169 points on the year.
Mikayla Kimsey has posted a NAIA-best 5.02 GAA, and holds the top save percentage in the NAIA at 56.4%. The sophomore has made 88 saves while posting a 15-1 record. UC has eight players with double-digit caused turnovers on the season, led by
Koral Hadac with a NAIA-best 33 caused turnovers to go along with 47 ground balls. Devries with 27 ct's and 44 gb's,
Christina Carter and Baker have combined for 37 caused turnovers and 58 ground balls.
Benedictine, the defending NAIA champion, sits atop the poll with 90 points, while SCAD is ranked second with 80 points. Reinhardt and Keiser round out the top-five, while AAC rivals Tennesse Weslyan and Georgetown are receiving votes.
Cumberlands returns to the field Saturday, April 11
th, when they host #4 Reinhardt in their regular season home finale. First draw is set for 2 p.m. with live video available
