Patriots Dominate MSC Awards with 10 All-Conference Selections, Three Top Honors

Bowling Green, KY – 10 members of the UC Baseball team have received Mid-South All-Conference honors, conference officials announced Tuesday. The Patriots also took home three of the conference's top honors including Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Head Coach of the Year, while also earning a Gold Glove selection.

Derick Andiarena was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Year, Wesley Culley earned Pitcher of the Year honors, and Head Coach Brad Shelton was named MSC Coach of the Year.

First Team All-Conference
Derick Andiarena, Wesley Culley, Caden Petrey, Johnboy Rittenhouse, Ronald Almanzar, Pedro Vasquez, Justin Cortez, and Brayden Stewart all garnered First Team All-Conference honors.

Derick Andiarena headlines the Patriots offensive attack after batting .413 on the season with 81 hits, 16 home runs, and 75 RBI. The senior outfielder ranks among the conference leaders in batting average, hits, and RBI while also scoring a team-high 67 runs. Andiarena earns All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season after earning Second Team honors a year ago.

Wesley Culley led the Patriots starting rotation, posting an 8-1 record with a 3.71 ERA across 68.0 innings pitched. The left-hander recorded 72 strikeouts and held opponents to a .227 batting average while tossing three complete games. Culley adds First Team honors to his Pitcher of the Year award, marking his first All-Conference selection.

Caden Petrey earned First Team honors while also being named a Gold Glove recipient. The senior hit .358 with 17 home runs and 63 RBI, while tallying 64 hits and 11 doubles. Defensively, Petrey posted a .977 fielding percentage with 95 assists, anchoring the Patriots infield. Petrey earns his fourth consecutive All-Conference selection.

Johnboy Rittenhouse was another key piece in the UC lineup, hitting .417 with 70 hits, 14 home runs, and 64 RBI. The infielder also drew 34 walks, posting a .510 on-base percentage while tallying 15 doubles on the season. Rittenhouse earns his second All-Conference honor of his career.

Ronald Almanzar provided power in the middle of the order, batting .396 with a team-high 22 home runs and 67 RBI. The junior also recorded a .500 on-base percentage and 151 total bases, leading the Patriots in slugging percentage. This marks Almanzar's first All-Conference selection.

Pedro Vasquez continued the offensive depth for UC, hitting .361 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI while adding 14 stolen bases. This marks his first All-Conference selection.

Justin Cortez was a key arm out of the bullpen, finishing the regular season with a 4-0 record and a 3.19 ERA. The junior struck out 57 batters over 42.1 innings of work and recorded four saves. This marks his first All-Conference selection.

Brayden Stewart rounded out the First Team selections on the mound, going 6-0 with a 3.76 ERA across 40.2 innings pitched. Stewart struck out 55 batters while limiting opponents to a .191 batting average. This marks his first All-Conference selection.

Second Team All-Conference
Two Patriots were included in the Second Team All-Conference list including Clay Shelton and Justin Veloz.

Clay Shelton earned Second Team honors after batting .383 with three home runs and 17 RBI in conference play. The catcher also played a key role defensively, recording 274 putouts and posting a .993 fielding percentage behind the plate. This marks his first All-Conference selection.

Justin Veloz was named to the Second Team after hitting .373 on the season with 41 hits, 14 doubles, and 32 RBI. The outfielder also posted an impressive .552 on-base percentage, drawing 24 walks while being hit by 20 pitches. This marks his first All-Conference selection.

Coach of the Year
Shelton led the Patriots to a 41-7 regular-season record and a 16-2 mark in Mid-South Conference play, winning the MSC regular-season title for a fourth straight year. This marks the eighth time Shelton has received the honor.

UC enters the Mid-South Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will open play Wednesday in Bowling Green, KY against the winner of No. 6 Bethel/No. 7 Georgetown. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT from Bowling Green Ballpark.
