COLUMBIA, Ky. – The University of the Cumberlands women's track & field team totaled 98 points and crowned five conference champions on day one of the MSC Outdoor Championships.
Cumberlands set the tone early in the 10,000 meters as Alina Boshchuk captured the conference title with a time of 39:46.09 to earn First Team All-Conference honors. Patrober Jepchirchir followed just behind in 39:46.16 to place second and earn Second Team honors, giving the Patriots a 1-2 finish in the event.
The dominance continued in the racewalk, where the Patriots swept the podium. Heather Durrant claimed the title in 25:14.17 to earn First Team All-Conference, while Lucy Sullivan placed second in 28:10.52 for Second Team honors. Lilian Bittencourt rounded out the sweep with a third-place finish in 28:41.00, earning Third Team All-Conference.
Another title came on the track in the 4x800-meter relay, as Hope Boa, Grace Nelson, Kayleigh Burkhead, and Rylee Schaffner combined to run 9:59.64 for First Team All-Conference honors.
Field event success was highlighted by Aliah Laster, who cleared 3.05 meters to win the pole vault and earn First Team All-Conference. Abia Kante added a runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.60 meters to earn Second Team honors.
Katie Slade added another conference title in the javelin, winning the event with a throw of 35.37 meters to earn First Team All-Conference honors. Jaci Woods placed third with a mark of 30.28 meters to earn Third Team honors, while Peavler finished eighth with a throw of 21.64 meters.
The throws group contributed key points, led by Delaney Deaton who placed third in the hammer with a mark of 40.51 meters to earn Third Team All-Conference. Taylor Lunsford followed in sixth at 30.38 meters, while Kelsie Peavler recorded 29.76 meters to place seventh.
Preliminary action saw multiple Patriots advance on the track. MaQuoia Raglin led the way in the 100 meters with a time of 11.96 to qualify for the finals, while Ritorion Vigne followed in 12.04. Allie Bryson also advanced with a time of 12.41, and Kennedi Riascos recorded 12.80.
In the 200-meter prelims, Kante qualified with a time of 25.23, while Vigne also advanced after running 25.53. Bryson (27.11), A'yana Gray (27.35), and Riascos (27.80) also competed.
After day one, Cumberlands leads the team standings with 98 points, followed by Lindsey Wilson (61) and Georgetown (50). Cumberland (Tenn.) sits fourth with 15 points, Campbellsville is fifth with 14, and Bethel (Tenn.) rounds out the standings with two points.
Cumberlands will return to action tomorrow as the Patriots look to build on a strong opening day at the MSC Outdoor Championships.
