Bowling Green, KY – UC Baseball enters the final stretch of the regular season this week with an impressive 40-5 record under their belt. Cumberlands looks to have themselves in contention for another Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship and a shot at high seeding for the MSC Tournament. With only two games last week due to weather conditions, the guys went out and put together a pair of impressive performances and for one Patriot, it was enough to win weekly accolades from the conference.
 
Senior outfielder Bryan Benz was named the Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. It is the second weekly honor for Benz of the season and the fourth of his career.
 
Benz hit an impressive .875 on the week, going 7-8 on the week with five home runs and nine RBI. His slugging percentage for the week was 2.750. Brian opened the week with a 4-4 effort against Milligan in an 11-4 win. He tallied three home runs with five RBI in the victory. In the endcap of the week, a 12-0 shutout win over Hiwassee, Benz went 3-4 with a pair of long balls, including a three-run walk-off shot to end the game, to go with four RBI and a walk.
 
Bryan now leads the Mid-South Conference with 16 home runs on the season. He has hit nine long balls in the last six contests and has hit one in five of the last six games. The team record number of home runs that UC has hit this season now stands at 84.
 
UC returns to the diamond on the road on Tuesday, April 23^rd as they travel to take on Midway University for a single, nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
