Patriots Women Start Outdoor Season Strong at UC Early Spring Meet

Williamsburg, KY – After winning the first national championship in program history, the women's track & field team got their outdoor season started at home in Williamsburg, KY at the UC Early Spring Meet. The Pats finished the day with three first-place finishers and an NAIA national standard.

The Pats hit a national B standard in the 4x100 after crossing the finish line in 47.15. Abia Kante ran the opening leg before Lillian Guzman and MaQuoia Raglin ran the next 200m. Allie Bryson took over as the anchor, and crossed the finish line for the national standard, and second place overall. Guzman also ran the 200m dash, clocking a 25.35 for second. A'Yana Gray ran a 26.03 for third while Kennedi Riascos finished eighth with a 27.80 200m time. Bryson represented the Pats in the 100m, running a 12.65 for fifth. Riascos also entered the blocks in the 100m dash, crossing the finish in 13.02 for seventh.

All three first-place finishes came in field events on Friday. Jaci Woods won the long jump with a 5.28m leap and the triple jump after recording a 10.82m mark. Mikaela Shock was the final event winner with a 2.10m clearance in the pole vault for first place. Woods also came away with a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw after hitting a mark of 24.48m. Mya Hines followed just behind Woods with a 23.55m throw for seventh.

The high jump saw Makayla Clark clear a height of 1.49m for second overall. Maggie Buerger also earned a second-place finish, throwing her discus 37.32m for the silver. Delaney Deaton recorded a 32.61m mark for fifth in the discus as well. Buerger was UC's top finisher in the hammer, with a 39.45m throw for fourth while Deaton recorded a 38.17 for fifth. Taylor Lunsford rounded out UC's top-eight finishers in the throwing events with a 9.47m mark in the shotput for seventh overall.

Back on the track, Elisa Helferich had a strong 1500m performance placing second with a 4:56.76. Chloe West clocked a 5:09.54 for seventh while Lucy Sullivan ran her 1500m in 5:13.58. Raglin ran in the open 400m for UC, clocking a 59.83 for fourth. Gray followed just behind her teammate for a 1:00.80 finish, placing sixth.

The Patriots will be back next weekend as they travel to Montreat, NC for the Montreat College Open.
