Women Hit A Trio of NAIA Standards and Win Seven Events at Gordon Bocock UC Invite

Williamsburg, KY – UC began day one of the Gordon Bocock Cumberlands Invitational with seven individual wins and three national standards.

Abia Kante led the way in the long jump with a 5.85m leap, a top-five mark in the NAIA this season. Mya Hines finished second in the LJ with a 5.16m best.

The 5K racewalk saw a pair of Patriots hit national cuts. Heather Durrant saw her first action of the outdoor season and crossed the finish line in 26:40.65 for an A standard and a top-five time in the NAIA. Ava Newkirk followed two places behind her teammate with a 27:24.42 finish for a national B cut.

Elke Wijkmans won the 5K with a 17:30.42 finish while Tarikua Majocchi placed second after running an 18:17.07. Chloe West followed with a 19:24.98 time for fourth overall.

Cumberlands went one, two, three in the 200m dash as A'Yana Gray ran a 26.40 for the win. Kennedi Riascos clocked a 26.81 for second while Ayana Jones finished third with a 27.26 200m.

The 1500m featured five Patriots in the top-10 finishers led by Viola Jepleting who won the race with a 4:42.72. Elizabeth Lucason ran a 4:46.25 for third while Alina Boshchuk crossed the finish line in 4:51.47 for fourth. Julie Meiner-Duedahl and Anslee Crosby rounded out UC's top-10 finishers with fifth and seventh place times of 4:57.04 and 5:11.28.  

Maggie Buerger won the discus throw on Friday with a 38.33m toss. Delaney Deaton recorded a 33.46m best for fourth while Hannah Baker finished seventh after a 22.67m throw.

In the javelin, Jaci Woods took the win with a 30.32m attempt. Baker finished fifth overall with a 21.76m mark.

The pole vault also saw a Patriot winner as Mikaela Shock finished in first place. She cleared a height of 2.50m on her first attempt for the win.

Cumberlands will return tomorrow for the final day of the Gordon Bocock Cumberlands Invitational. Field events begin at 10 AM ET with track events set to go off at 11 AM ET.
