Williamsburg, KY – Cumberlands women sit in first place through eight events on the first day of the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championships in Williamsburg on Sunday. UC picked up five wins and 12 All-Conference finishes to combine for 97 team points.
UC opened the meet with a first and second place finish in the 10K run.
Sharon Jemeli won the race with a national standard time of 36:43.21 while
Alina Boshchuk ran a 38:07.87 for second.
Tarikua Majocchi followed with a win as the lone Patriot in the 3000m steeplechase. The freshman crossed the finish line in 11:21. 56 for the gold medal and first-team all-conference honors.
The long jump featured the Pats go one, two and six for 21 total points.
Abia Kante won the event with a 5.84m B standard followed by
Mya Hines who leaped 5.76m for second.
Jaci Woods followed with a 5.09m jump for sixth. Woods and Hines earned all-conference finishes in the javelin throw with marks of 32.04m and 24.80m for second and third while
Hannah Baker posted a 24.06m mark for fourth.
The 4x800 relay posted a national B standard time of 9:18.50 to dominate for a first-place finish.
Viola Jepleting, Julie-Meiner Duedahl,
Megan Kitchens, and
Elizabeth Lucason combined for the gold medal performance.
The Pats' final win of the day came in the pole vault where
Mikaela Shock cleared a height of 2.40m for 10 team points.
A trio of Patriots scored in the hammer throw Sunday led by
Maggie Buerger who finished fourth with a 41.63m mark.
Delaney Deaton posted a 39.53m throw for sixth while
Taylor Lunsford placed eighth with a 35.52m.
UC's sprinters also competed in the 100m and 200m dashes.
Allie Bryson qualified for the 100m with a 12.62 prelim finish while Kante and
Lillian Guzman went three, four in the 200m prelims to earn a spot in the finals tomorrow.
Cumberlands sit in first place with 97 points while Lindsey Wilson is in second with 56. Cumberland University round out the top three after scoring 49 points on day one.
The championships will conclude tomorrow with running events starting at 11 AM and field events at 10 AM.
