Bowling Green, KY – After a strong week that helped the Patriots open Mid-South Conference play with a sweep, the University of the Cumberlands earned both Mid-South Conference weekly honors as Emily Delgado was named MSC Player of the Week and Jessica Cord was selected as MSC Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced Monday afternoon.
Delgado delivered several clutch performances during Cumberlands' 4–1 week, highlighted by a walk-off RBI single against Milligan and a grand slam in the series finale against Campbellsville. The junior transfer finished the week hitting .333 (5-for-15) with seven RBIs while reaching base at a .412 clip. Delgado's biggest moment came in the Patriots' conference series-clinching victory over Campbellsville when she launched a grand slam to help secure the sweep and push UC to a 3–0 start in Mid-South Conference play.
Cord anchored the Patriots' pitching staff throughout the week, compiling a 2–1 record with one save and a 0.40 ERA across 17.2 innings. She allowed just one earned run during the stretch while striking out 16 batters. Cord recorded two complete-game shutouts against Campbellsville, including a dominant one-hit performance in the Mid-South Conference opener. She also added two scoreless innings in relief during the series finale to help secure the sweep.
With the pair of honors, Cumberlands swept the Mid-South Conference weekly awards for the week.
The Patriots will return to action this weekend as they host Lindsey Wilson University (Ky.) for a three-game Mid-South Conference series beginning Friday at 4:00 PM at the UC Softball Complex. The series will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday scheduled for 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM in Williamsburg.
