Bowling Green, KY – The sixth-ranked University of the Cumberlands baseball team swept the Mid-South Conference weekly honors for the first time this season, as Derick Andiarena was named MSC Player of the Week and Wesley Culley earned MSC Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
Andiarena led the Patriots at the plate in their weekend sweep of Georgetown (Ky.), batting .500 (8-for-16) across four games. The senior recorded three multi-hit performances and finished the series with one home run, seven RBIs, five runs scored, and a stolen base. His consistent offensive production helped power UC to a dominant series sweep. This marks Andiarena's second MSC weekly honor of the season and his second consecutive week receiving the award.
On the mound, Culley delivered a dominant performance, tossing a nine-inning complete-game shutout in a 10-0 victory over Georgetown. The graduate student struck out nine batters while retiring the first 13 hitters he faced and allowed just four runners to reach scoring position throughout the game. The outing marked his third consecutive complete game, improving his record to 5-0 on the season. Culley earns his second MSC weekly honor of the year.
The Patriots return to action on Tuesday March 24th for a home matchup against Union Commonwealth at Doyle Buhl Stadium. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET.
