Pats Open Series with 9-4 Win Over the Tigers

Georgetown, KY - The #3 Cumberlands Patriots traveled to take on the Georgetown Tigers for the first of a three-game series. UC battled back and pulled out the win of 9-4 to remain undefeated in Mid-South Conference play. Cumberlands improves to 34-3 overall and 14-0 in MSC.

Emily Bryant blasted a pair of hits and drove in three RBI. Morgan Radford also had three RBI while both Meryn Livingston and Mackenzie Pawlak tallied a pair of hits. As a team, Cumberlands recorded 11 hits, with four of them for extra base hits.

In the circle, Talli Burgess got the start and earned her 15th win of the season. She struckout a trio of hitters while giving up eight hits and four runs. Kaiti White came into relief, pitching the final 1.2 innings where she only gave up just one hit, no walks and no runs.

The Tigers got out to the early lead, scoring a pair of runs off two hits. But the lead did not last long. In the top of the second, Bailey Turnbow walked and then Pawlak followed it up with a single to put a pair of runners on. With two outs, Livingston stepped to the plate and drove the ball to right bringing both Turnbow and Pawlak around to score, tying the game at 2-2.

The defense for UC got it done in the bottom of the second, going three up, three down, including a K from Burgess. The offense kept the momentum going in the next frame. Mackenzie Keatts and Maddie Sickau got on from back-to-back singles. Then Bryant launched the ball over the left field fence for her fourth home run of the season, driving in three runs for the 5-2 UC lead, their first lead of the contest.

The Pats had another one, two, three inning and then got back to work offensively. Hailey Wood got on after getting hit by a pitch and then swiped second to be in scoring position. Livingston kept the hot bat with a single to put runners on the corners. Taylor Green came in to run for Livingston. Radford came to the plate and roped her third double of the season, clearing the bases and extending the lead to 7-2.

The Tigers picked up two more runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-4. This prompted White to enter the circle with one out and she got the next two batters to groundout.

In the seventh, Cumberlands added some insurance runs. It kickstarted by Bryant with a single and then stealing second. Turnbow walked to get two runners for Pawlak. The Georgetown, KY native put down the bunt and was safe at first, allowing Bryant to come around from second and score. A fielder's choice and then a walk loaded the bases for Radford. She was walked to bring in the final run of the game to make it 9-4.

Georgetown got a runner on, but Cumberlands got two groundouts to secure the game one win.
