Pats Erupt for 14 Extra Base Hits To Claim the Sweep Over the Tigers

Georgetown, KY - The #3 Cumberlands Patriots had one of their best offensive days of the season. For the final two games against Georgetown the team combined for 29 hits with 14 as extra base hits. UC took the second game of the series, 11-3 and then got the sweep with a 13-0 , five inning game. The Pats are now 16-0 on Mid-South Conference play and 36-3 on the season.

On the day, both Mackenzie Pawlak and Makenzie Keatts recorded five hits, with each of them having two doubles. Keatts also rocketed a pair of home runs and drove in a team best seven RBI. Bailey Turnbow tallied four hits and four RBI while Hailey Wood got three hits and three RBI.

In the circle, Morgan Radford started the first game of the day, where she did not give up a hit through 4.2 innings. She ended up pitching 5.0 innings, giving up four hits and three runs while striking out three. Talli Burgess came in for relief where she pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one hit and one walk to secure the win. White got the start in the final game, pitching 4.0 innings. She only gave up one hit and no walks. Lindsey Shope pitched the final inning, giving up just one hit.

GAME TWO: PATS DEFEAT TIGERS, 11-3

Radford started the day with two strikeouts and a groundout then the UC offense got going in the second. Turnbow led off the inning with a single to left field and was moved to second off a sac bunt from Pawlak. Wood was the next batter and drove the ball over the left field fence for her first homer of the season. Paxton Hoop got on after being hit by a pitch and Radford singled to put two runners on. The Tigers walked Maddie Sickau loading the bases for Keatts. The Smyrna, TN native made it count, roping the ball to center field to clear the bases, for her double that made it 5-0.

Radford was lights out through three innings. She gave up her first base runner in the fourth off a leadoff walk, but then got the next three Tigers out. Then in the top of the fifth it was once again Turnbow getting the offense going, this time with a single up the middle. Pawlak followed it up, blasting a ball to left center for the RBI double. Two batters later, Hoop put the ball in play, but the GC defense could not come up with it and Pawlak scored to have the score at 7-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Georgetown recorded their first hit and then put up two runs to cut the deficit to 7-2.

Keatts got a run back in the top of the sixth off a solo home run to left field. However, the Tigers got a run themselves in the sixth to make the score 8-3 in favor of UC.

The Pats added some insurance runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach for the Tigers. Pawlak led the inning with an infield single, being too fast for the shortstop and getting on base. Wood doubled in the gap to put two runners in scoring position. Hoop then squared around for the squeeze, allowing Pawlak to score easily. Oliver roped a ball to right center pushing Wood across. Then Keatts kept the hot bat, doubling to left field for the RBI double, making the score 11-3.

The Tigers got two runners on in the seventh, but Keatts dove for a ball in left field and then fired to second base for the double play, ending the game.

GAME THREE: CUMBERLANDS RUN-RULES GEORGETOWN, 13-0

The Patriots carried their offense into the final game of the series. In the first inning, Sickau hit a single into left field. In stepped Keatts into the box, where she scorched the ball to left field for her second homer of the day and team best seventh of the season for the 2-0 UC lead.

White sent the first six batters she saw down in order and then turned it over to her offense for their biggest inning of the season. A walk to Emily Bryant started the inning and Turnbow turned it into a run with one swing of the bat. She lifted the ball over the fence for the two-run home run. Pawlak restarted the inning with her second double of the day. And then Wood lined a ball to right center and raced around to third for the RBI triple. Radford kept the extra base theme going, hitting a double to right field to score Wood. Oliver followed it up with a single to the outfield to put runners at the corners. Then Sickau launched the ball to left center for the two RBI double. Keatts was hit by a pitch and Bryant was walked to load the bases. Turnbow got to swing the bat and put the ball through the left side to score two more. Pawlak hit the ball to the other side of the field for one more run. With Turnbow at third and Pawlak at first, Pawlak took off to steal second. The Tigers threw down but could not get her and this allowed Turnbow to come home and pushed Pawlak to third. Two batters later Livingston joined the hit parade for the sixth extra base hit of the frame to make the score 13-0. UC earned 11 runs off nine hits in the inning for their most offense in one frame all season long.

The Tigers got a runner on in the third and the fourth, but White got out of the jam to keep it scoreless. Shope entered the game in the fifth inning, where she gave up just one hit, but no runs to win the game 13-0.
