Anthony Kabara is a native of Nairobi, Kenya. He came to the United States pursuing his dream of attaining an education while exploring an opportunity to run at Cumberland College, now University of the Cumberlands. Kabara majored in Movement and Leisure Studies with a minor in Business Administration, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Cumberlands in 2004.
At Cumberlands, Anthony broke eight school records, earned 11 NAIA Championships, and was awarded 18 NAIA All-American awards. In 2000 and 2002, Kabara was named the NAIA Indoor Outstanding Performer.
Kabara’s seven school records include indoor track records in the 800M in a time of 1:48.2 in 2001, the 4x800M relay in a time of 7:35.3 in 2000, and the distance medley in a time of 10:05 in 1999. For outdoor track school records, he ran the 800M in 1:45.29 in 2001, the 4x400M relay in 3:12.7 in 2002, the 4x800M relay in 7:33.3 in 2001 and the Distance Medley in 9:37.97 in 1999.
His personal records include the 800M in 1:45.29, the 600M in 1:17.88, and the 400 in 47.34. His time in the 800M, 1:45.29, was the 3 rd fastest time in the world at that time. By the end of the year, Kabara was ranked 36 th in the world.
During his 2003 season, Kabara won the 800M at the Dublin International Games in Ireland and the Kajaks International Track Classic in Canada. He finished second at the Maine Distance Festival, the Boston High Performance, and a meet in Budapest, Hungary. During the Indoor Season in the Golden Spike Series, Tyson Invitational, Kabara took 3 rd place.
Anthony Kabara is self employed while continuing his regimented training for future world track events and the dream of representing his home country in the Olympics.
