Hall of Fame
John is a 1963 graduate of Cumberland College. Before coming to Cumberland, he attended Texas A. & M., where he placed 10th in the SWC cross-country Championships. At Cumberland, John won 5 out of the 6 meets in the cross-country teams first season. He went on to lead the team to a 12:1 record in his second season, and a 26:3 record his third season. He finished 27th out of 166 runners in the AAU National Championships and was 1st among all Kentucky participants. As a member of the Indian Track team, he averaged 15 points per meet while competing in the mile, 2 mile, half-mile, and the 220 low hurdles. During his senior year, he was voted as Most Athletic. For the past 36 years, John has served as a Teacher and a Coach in Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee. He is a recipient of the Franklin Select Circle National Coaching Award and was inducted into the Williamsburg High School Hall of Fame in 1997. John currently serves as a Biology teacher at Campbell County High School. He and his wife Margaret, also a Cumberland graduate, are the parents of three children. They currently reside in Lafollete, Tennessee.
