Hall of Fame
Originally from Milan, Indiana, Gordon spent his formative years in southeastern Indiana before moving to New Albany where he graduated high school. In 1963 he was recruited by Dr. John P. Duke and was given a Track and Cross Country scholarship at Cumberland, participating all four years of college. Gordon's leadership stood out instantly on the campus as a student scholar athlete becoming actively involved as class vice president, student government officer, basketball team statistician, The Lamp yearbook staff, school photographer, sports editor of The Echo, Physical Education Club President, Lettermans Club President, College Postmaster, Resident Assistant, Who's Who in Health and Physical Education, coted Most Valuable to Cumberland College Athletics, and perhaps most remarkable, Gordon replaced "The Oscar Combs", of CATS PAUSE acclaim as Sports Information Director his Junior and Senior years. He held several school records in distance events before graduating in 1967 under Coach Henry Morgan, who would turn the program over to Gordon later that year. His coaching career at Cumberland extended from 1967-1971 as Cross-Country Coach and from 1968-1972 as Track and Field Coach. Gordon was also Assistant Deam of Men, Director of Men's Housing, Yearbook Sponsor, Health and Physical Education Instructor, was named NAIA District 32 & KIAC Coach of the Year in Cross Country in '70, '71, & '72, named NAIA Coach of the Year in 1971, and coached the school's first NAIA All-American in Track and Field (DaleWalker- High Jump). In 1972 Bocock would move to Somerset, Kentucky and become the first Track and Cross Country Coach at Pulaski County High School. He coached his Pulaski teams to an unprecedented four KHSAA State Championships in Class A, AA,and AAA. He also served three years as Athletic Director of Pulaski County H.S. Gordon was selected to the KTCCCA, Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame in 1989. He is a member and deacon of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Somerset. He is one of five founding members of the KTCCCA, served as its first President, and was Treasurer for 15 years. He has been the KHSAA Cross Country Committee Chairman since 1979, and State Track and Field Committee Chairman since 1985, State Cross Country Meet Director since 1981, and State Track and Field Meet Director since 1992. In March 2005, he was inducted into the KHSAA Hall of Fame. He has held numerous other leadership roles on the state and national level including Meet Director for the Mason Dixon Games since 1987, Chief Umpire at the 2005 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Championships, and Chief Umpire at the 2006 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in Arkansas and California. Currently residing in Somerset, Kentucky, Gordon is married to Janet "Sue" Blevins, Cumberland Class of 1970, his wife of 37 years, and they have one daughter, Christy Woodall.
