Lauren Brooke Wombles was born in London, Kentucky and is the daughter of Roy & Barbara Wombles. She has one brother Landon Wombles. She attended UC from 2008-2013, earning her BSE in ’13 and completing her master’s degree in Special education in 2016. She was a member of the women’s basketball team for four years.

During her time at Cumberlands, she fought through injuries and became one of the most decorated players in school history. She helped lead the Patriots to Two MSC regular season Championships, three MSC tournament Championships, and NAIA Sweet Sixteen appearance and an NAIA Elite Eight appearance, the furthest the team has gone in school history.

Wombles earned nine conference honors including MSC Freshman of the Year in 2009, MSC Player of the Year in 2012, three-time MSC Academic All-Conference from 2010-2012, and four-time MSC All-Conference First Team selection from 2009-2012. She also accumulated three NAIA awards and two honors from the WBCA, including First Team All-American for both organizations. She is the second player in school history to score more than 2,000 points in a career and is the University’s all-time leading scorer for both men’s and women’s basketball with 2,098 points. She also holds the school records for rebounds in a career with 926, most points in a season with 635, most free-throws in a career with 430, and most field goals attempted in a career with 1,614. Wombles had one 40-point game, four 30-point games, and forty-three 20 point games in her career. In her senior year she was ranked sixth in the NAIA in points per game with 19.8 a contest. Lauren’s Jersey hung in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame’s Ring of Honor for the 2010-2011 season.

Wombles is in her sixth year of teaching 4th-5th grade mathematics in the Laurel County School District. She is engaged to Caleb Taylor, whom she will marry in July.
