Originally from Norton, Virginia, David found his way to Cumberland College and etched his name on the record books as a member of the golf team. Banks holds the career record for scoring average, 75.29, and he registered the lowest single season scoring average of72.54 during the 1984-85 season. During the same season he also won a record 7 individual titles, which still ranks second on the Indian all time list in a single season. During his college career, Banks played in four NAIA National Tournaments. He was selected four times as All-District 32 and All-KIAC. He was a 3-time KIAC, District 32 Champion, and Kentucky Independent College Tournament Champion. Banks ranks second on the all-time career list, having won 60 tournaments during his days at Cumberland. After leaving Cumberland, he went on to enjoy a successful playing career in the Ben Hogan and Canadian Tours of the Professional Golfers Association. David, his wife Melinda, and their son Tyler reside in Auburndale, Florida.
