Shelly Schnee Scheithauer, the daughter of Roger Schnee and Sandra Coffman, was born in in Norwalk, Ohio and grew up in nearby Milan, where she attended Edison High School. She competed on the track and cross country teams with her twin sister, Kelly Schnee Cozmanciuc. Her success in the 800m run caught the attention of Coach BJ Temple and she was recruited to run for the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky along with her sister.
During Scheithauer's collegiate career, the cross country team captured first place at the Regional meet and qualified for the NAIA National Championship Meet three times. As an individual, she earned 2nd team All-Region her freshman year and 1st team All-Region her remaining three seasons. Scheithauer achieved academic All-American honors all four years as a Patriot. Other honors include Track & Field: 2006 MSC Outdoor Athlete of the year and Indoor & Outdoor National Qualifier all four years.
At one time, Scheithauer held the indoor school records at UC for the 400m, 600m, 800m, and the Distance Medley, 4x800m and 4x400m relays. All of her records except the 800m (broken by her twin sister) and the Distance Medley relay still stand. Scheithauer's outdoor records were held in the 400m, 800m, and 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m relays. These records still stand except for the 800m (broken by her twin sister) and the 4x100m relay.
Only two UC Track and Field athletes, Scheithauer along with Anthony Kabara, '04, have qualified for the NAIA National competition by achieving the "A" standard all four years in their respective event for the indoor and outdoor seasons. Other honors she has received include Mid-South Conference MVP and three All-American honors. Scheithauer, with the combined efforts of Cozmanciuc, Vanity Vasquez, attended '05- '06, and Michelle Warnky, '06, anchored the 4x800m relay that finished sixth place in the 2006 NAIA Indoor National competition with a UC record time of 9:22.94. Scheithauer earned an individual NAIA Indoor National fourth place finish in the 600m with a school record time of 1:34.36 and culminated her career in the NAIA Outdoor National Championship finishing fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.02.
