Wilford "Jack" came to the Indians following a successful career at nearby Lone Jack High School. On the hardwood for the Tribe, Jackson played in 107 games and set numerous records including: most field goals attempted in a career with 1839. For 2 decades he held the post as the all time leading scorer with a career total of 1945 points. He still holds the second spot for leading scorers in Indian Basketball history. Jack led the Tribe in field goal percentage in the 1960-1961 season, free throw percentage in the 1961-1962 season and in scoring during his fianl two seasons. For his efforts, he was named All-District and All-Conference as well NAIA All-American in 1964. Following his graduation from Cumberland, Jackson enjoyed a successful coaching career compiling a 314-76 record for an impressive winning percentage of 81%. For 4 consecutive years, he was named "Coach of the Year" byt he Florida Junior College Conference in Division I. He was named a 3 time "Coach of the Year" by the Volunteer State Athletic Conference, and named NAIA District 24 "Coach of the Year" in 1976 and 1977. Although Wilford Jackson passed away in December of 1979, he leaves a lasting impact on the lives of his family, the athletes he coached, and the numerous individuals who have benefited from articles he wrote regarding various aspects of coaching basketball.
