Henry Morgan was born in Pineville, Kentucky and graduated from Lone Jack High School in 1959.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cumberland College in 1963 and Master of Education from University of Mississippi in 1968.

Morgan began his thirty-one year career at Cumberland in the fall of 1959, as a basketball, track and cross country athlete.  He held the triple jump record for over ten years.  In 1962, he started the Sports Information Department under direction of Coach John Renfro.

Following graduation, Morgan taught in the public school system for one year.  In the fall of 1964, he returned to Cumberland to teach and was named the Dean of Men, a position he held for 15 years.  He coached the track and cross country teams from 1964 through 1968.  His track teams had three undefeated seasons with a record of 52-1.  The one loss was by two points to University of Louisville.

Morgan also coached women's basketball for thirteen years, taking his teams to the NAIA National Tournament for three consecutive appearances (1986-1988) and reaching the sweet sixteen twice.  He had five 20+ win seasons and was named NAIA District 32 Coach of the Year for three consecutive years (1986-1988).

Morgan coached ten future UC Athletic Hall of Fame inductees including track athletes, Pete Melzoni, Jack Faulkner, Gordon Bocock, Dale Walker and Dr. Fred Sagester; women basketball players: Hope Peace Akins, Soni Smith, Barbara Spratling, Betsy Rains and Melissa Irvin.

Morgan is the father of one son, Brad, whom he lost in 2009, and was married to the former Donna Cosby, a professor of Computer Science at Cumberland College, whom he lost in 2011.
